Timpani

Timpani

Timpani or kettledrums (also informally called timps)

Timpani is a type of percussion instrument commonly used in orchestras and bands. They are large, bowl-shaped drums with a circular copper or fiberglass body and a drum head that is tensioned over the body.

Timpani sound:

Timpanis are played by hitting drum heads with special mallets or drumsticks. The pitch of each drum can be adjusted by tightening or loosening the tension rods around the edge of the drum. This allows the cymbal drummer to tune the cymbal to specific pitches.

Capable of producing a wide range of pitches and dynamics, timpanis provide a deep, resonant sound. They are typically used to provide rhythmic and melodic support in orchestral compositions. In addition to orchestral music, timpanis are also used in various genres of music; concert music, chamber music and pop music.

Timpani players own a high level of skill and technique to play these instruments effectively. They must have a good sense of pitch, rhythm and dynamics and the ability to produce a clear and resonant sound from the timpani.

Timpani price:

The price of a timpani can vary greatly depending on several factors, such as brand, size, materials used, and the overall quality of the instrument. The price of an entry-level timpani is usually around 2,300–2,500 Euros per drum. These tend to be smaller and may have fewer features.

The prices of high-quality timpanis, professional-level instruments or instruments of well-known brands can vary from 3,000 Euros to 10,000 Euros per drum or even more. Larger timpanis with additional features such as fine adjustments and pedal mechanisms for precise tuning tend to be more expensive.

Prices may change over time due to inflation, changes in manufacturing costs and market demand. If you are interested in buying timpani, it is recommended to check the up-to-date price information from Soitin Laine.
