stopping the horn bell with the hand or a stopping mute the tone rises a
half tone, but often these notes are out of tune (sharp). Correcting
this problem requires embouchure adjustments that can threaten security.

Working
with a stopping mute often results in a brassy tone. The combination of
aluminum for direct sound, and an oak “bell” for general color, brings
both aspects to a hand stopped-like sound.
