The headjoint, body and footjoint are made from .958 silver, with silver plated nickel silver keys. The nickel content makes the flute durable and helps to resist dents. The sterling silver adds a darker, warmer and more focused tone. This is because the solid silver is a denser metal and therefore the air resonates in a different way to nickel or gold. Sterling silver and silver plated flutes do require a higher level of maintenance compared to nickel to reduce the likelihood of them tarnishing.

The tone holes are drawn and are sculpted from the flute's body for a more resonant, richer timbre. The design uses technical advances to provide precise interval intonation. The standard pitch is A=442 Hz so you would be able to comfortably play between A=440 Hz and A=444 Hz. Miyazawa's cold forge technique produces stronger and more reliable keys rather than the former heat-casting methods which affects the integrity of the metal.

The Brögger Mainline Key System ™

Every flute in the Miyazawa range is built with the The Brögger Mainline Key System ™ designed by John Brögger, a renowned Danish flutemaker. The advantage of this design is the one-piece rod and kicker construction which produces a more streamlined, stronger mechanism. The key movement is transferred across the keys through the Brögger back connectors rather than a pinned steel. The result is that the keys operate individually as opposed to an internal mechanism moving. Friction is reduced as the rods do not rotate and the wear and friction between the hinge tubes and rods is reduced and therefore increased the longevity of the instrument. With less friction comes ease of movement and so it provides a lighter, smoother and quieter mechanism.
